Herbert McGolphin Shelton is an outstanding American physician and hygienist. He is the most prominent representative of the Natural Hygiene movement in the 20th century. Herbert Shelton holds nine honorary doctorates and has authored numerous scientific works.

Herbert McGolphin Shelton was born on October 6, 1895, on a farm near the town of Wiley in Collin County, in the northern part of the state of Texas (he died on January 1, 1985).

Herbert spent his childhood on his father’s farm. In 1918, Herbert Shelton was drafted into the army, but as a staunch pacifist, he was assigned to serve as a cook in the kitchen.
